Preparation

Although recovery from the procedure is minimal, there are a few things you can do to prepare for the best results. Before undergoing a dimpleplasty treatment, you will need to:

Procedure

Before your procedure, we will cleanse your skin and Dr. Markmann will mark your cheeks carefully to ensure he places symmetrical dimples. General anesthesia is preferred because it prevents movement and unintentional muscle contractions during the procedure that could affect your results. Your surgeon will locate your underlying muscle and pass a thin needle through your cheek, which exits through the mark on the outside of the cheek. He will thread the needle back through your skin into your mouth and tie it around your muscles to create the dimple. Although the suture will not be noticeable to the naked eye, it will create a beautiful, natural-looking indentation that enhances your facial features.

Recovery

Recovery from a dimpleplasty is minimal. You can return home immediately afterward to rest and recover. You may experience some mild swelling around the suture as it settles into your skin. We recommend that you schedule a few days of downtime while the swelling subsides, and you will need to elevate your head while you sleep. Most patients use pillows or a recliner chair to prop their heads up and reduce swelling. During your recovery, it is important not to smile or laugh for approximately 3 weeks while you heal to prevent suture rupture and loss of the dimple. Facial expressions can pull on the stitches, causing them to break or shift position. For the best outcome, you will need to keep your facial muscles relaxed to allow your skin to heal.

Results

You can enjoy results immediately and the dimples will be the most prominent during the first few weeks of your recovery. After several weeks, they will soften, sometimes disappear for a while and then you will only notice them when you smile. Once the healing is complete, you will not be able to see them when your facial muscles are relaxed.
